NEW PHILADELPHIA Doug Wood threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Nick Palleschi with just over a minute to go and ran in the two-point conversion to lift Malvern over Tuscarawas Central Catholic 36-35 in a battle of unbeaten Inter-Valley Conference teams.
Wood also threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Travis Tucci in the fourth quarter. He was 10-of-20 passing for 167 yards with three touchdown passes and an interception. He also had a rushing touchdown and recovered a blocked punt in the end zone defensively for a touchdown.
Wood finished with 64 yards rushing on 19 carries.
Maurice Johnson was Malvern's leading rusher with 114 yards on 24 carries. Tucci had five catches for 49 yards and two touchdowns.
Joe Lawless had three passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns for Tusky Central Catholic. Lawless was 17-of-36 passing for 371 yards with an interception.
Sam Fondriest caught two of Lawless's touchdown passes. Fondriest finished as the leading receiver for the Saints with 70 yards on seven catches.
