CARROLLTON The Carrollton Warriors football team is 5-0.
Just a year removed from going the entire season without a victory, Carrollton guaranteed a non-losing season just halfway through its 10-game schedule. The Warriors beat Marlington, 22-17, in a back-and-forth game Friday night at Community Field.
Johnny Lowdermilk threw for 151 yards and ran for 39, scoring touchdowns both through the air and on the ground to lead the Warriors. His 2-yard touchdown run with 2:04 left in the game provided the difference.
Damon Anderson added 75 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries for the Warriors.
Carrollton scored first as Lowdermilk hit Robbie Smith for a 24-yard TD pass. Marlington responded with a 31-yard Tyler Royer field goal and a 73-yard TD run by Dymonte Thomas.
Carrollton regained the lead with a 22-yard TD run by Anderson and extended it to 16-10 on Ben Knotts’ 25-yard field goal.
Tyler Royer’s 2-yard touchdown run gave Marlington a 17-16 lead early in the fourth quarter, but Lowdermilk answered nine minutes later, and Carrollton hung on.
Thomas led Marlington with 107 yards rushing. Alden Hill added 66 on the ground. Royer was 8-of-23 passing for 144 yards, throwing two interceptions, both by Tyler Sheets.
